The Longer Intro:
As a part of that lost generation of elder millennials, we were encouraged to take that prescribed path toward a career that was never really waiting on us when we got there. Our lives became confusing and stagnate and we both felt like late bloomers by our late 30s. That’s when we met each other.
We got married at 37 (Emily) and 36 (Alex). Both of us had realized long ago that there was no path to that picket fence for us, but once we were together, we got a lot braver.
We sold our house in the middle of the pandemic and took an adult gap year at age 39 and 38. Our travels led us to Mexico, Canada, France, Italy, UK, Croatia and Malaysia before coming back to the US. We settled in San Francisco in hopes of obtaining a long term Spanish visa and moving back to Europe.
Life had other plans in the form of a full-on burnout for Emily and a full-on full-time job for Alex. For a year we lost ourselves again to the pressures of feeling like we had to live a life we didn’t even want.
Now, with some perspective, we are re-focused on our goal to move to the EU again. In the meantime we decided to take travel content creation seriously in the hopes of having a location independent income when we move. We hope to be able to come back here one day and tell you all about how we get paid to travel the world and bring you to new places.
Alex put it beautifully when he said our first year of travel was like school. We were learning, studying and gaining experience. Now, it is time to put all we have learned into practice and build the life we want.
Our Experience:
Emily has a Masters Degree in Art History, and loves learning and sharing about history and cultural and organizing her thoughts into helpful social content and blog posts. She has spent several years honing her photography and editing skills. Emily is learning about mindfulness techniques that help her cope while traveling with anxiety, asthma, and allergies. She is interested in proving that it is never too late to take a chance on yourself and you are never too old to be a travel influencer. She aims to lead with honesty, humor, insight, and age and body positivity for an age group of women who are underserved in this industry.
Alex has a background in the legal cannabis industry in California. He has worked in all aspects of the trade from cultivation to sales. Don’t let that fool you though, he is not a burnout by any means. He currently manages a dispensary and is also in charge of their social media. He loves creative videography and has sharpened his skills with video and audio editing. Alex’s subject matter of choice is food. As an adventurous eater, Alex thrives on finding unique dishes to try. He also loves to re-create allergy-friendly versions of his favorite foods for Emily.
